Occasionally storms are encountered along life's journey and it may be useful to have one of these interesting curios. Or perhaps you're looking for a gift for someone who helped you weather the storms? Or a gift for someone who has everything?   "FitzRoy’s Storm Barometers” were popular around 1860 and used by Admiral Robert FitzRoy on the HMS Beagle. A storm glass is a liquid filled, sealed glass container that acts as a weather forecasting device. The glass orb sits inside an elegant wooden base. The liquid is a mix of several ingredients and the degree to which it crystalises is supposed to be predictive of weather conditions. Make your own observations based on the reactions of this scientifically accurate reproduction.
  • Clear liquid = Fine Weather
  • Ferns = Wind
  • Small dots = Damp, fog
  • Large flakes = Overcast
  • Milky appearance = Rain
  • Ferns, stars in motion = Thunderstorms
  • Small clusters at the bottom = Frost
  • Stars on bright winter days = Snow
Ready made and ready to send. The wooden base can be hand-engraved with a name or date if required, please order hand-engraving separately. Base is pictured with engraving for display.
